Family Preparedness: Have the Money Talk With Your Child

May 26, 2023

It is important to have the dreaded money talk with your child when it comes to college.

You must sit down with your child and talk about what you are comfortable contributing to their college costs. You want to ensure early on that your expectations are clear.

Do you have hopes that they will pursue a school closer to home? Are you on board with their particular degree plan? Do they have a clear plan for how to finance and pay for college?

Students are likely to be more successful when they have the opportunity to sit down and work with their parents to ensure that all goals are met.

College is a big financial commitment! Your child may not fully understand the magnitude of college expenses, so it is important that you are on the same page when it comes to making plans.

Knowing this information upfront will help ensure that your child is applying to schools that are within reach financially, as well as ones that meet your family’s criteria for success.

Once you’ve had this conversation and outlined expectations between you and your child, start researching colleges thoroughly so they can find the best one for them. College is an important investment and the more informed you all are, the better decision your child will make for their future.

Although necessary, these conversations can sometimes be difficult. We are here to help you make the most informed decision possible. We would love to schedule a FREE consultation with you and your child to help you work through a college process that is right for your family.

Happy researching!
